A Will is a legal document that directs how your property is to be distributed or managed after you have passed away. Without a valid Will (or Trust) your property will pass at the direction of Washington state law (RCW. 11.04.015). This law generally says your direct family line will receive your property, from closest in lineage expanding out.
If you want to be more in control of where exactly your property goes and who handles your estate, you should have a Will/Trust created by a lawyer today. Lawyers help ensure the validity of a Will to minimize the risk of issues coming up later in the court's Probate process. Having a plan for your estate also significantly relieves the stress and burden from your loved ones.
A Trust is typically a more complex type of estate plan, that involves maintenance and a Trustee. Speak with a lawyer to see if a Trust is right for your situation.
We also provide Medical Powers of Attorney and Financial Powers of Attorney. These documents allow someone to step in and act on your behalf when you can no longer act on your own accord.
Health Care Directives are used to detail your wishes if you were ever to fall into a coma/vegetative state.
Notary services are included with Estate Planning, or separately for a small fee.
Probate is the formal court process of settling a person's estate after they have passed away. There are limited circumstances where full probate can be avoided. Common examples include property passing to a surviving spouse, or estates valued under $100,000. Speak with a lawyer if you have questions regarding probate.
If you or your loved ones are limited in travel ability or require other special arrangements, please don't hesitate to ask. "House calls" are available.
